One of the most interesting observations made in the Bible comes from Genesis 6:5-6 where it is recorded, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.”.  Many of us are familiar with this passage providing a foundation for the story of the great flood, but I think something else can be gleaned from this passage.  It is easy for us to believe that we live in a horrible wicked world that has overwhelmed God’s influence.  We almost get the impression that God and God’s people have become victims of the evil to the earth; however, that is not necessarily true.  Yes, there is wickedness in the world, but that doesn’t mean that this is the worst of times.  Thousands of years ago, the historian Moses reflected on a time when God was so disgusted and dismayed that He blotted out much of His creation and started all over again.
The point to this observation is that God is still in control of our world.  God is not new to the presence of oppressive evil and will not be overwhelmed or overthrown by the forces of the world. Everything that God does is by His design and in His time.  God is not in a reactive mode hoping that something or someone will “right the ship” – He has His plan and will implement it through His design.
Let’s believe in God’s wisdom and His power.  We may not know what God has in store for this world, but we can be assured that He knows exactly what will happen and when He will choose to implement it.  Eventually He will send our Lord and Savior back to earth and He will end this planet, but until that time comes let’s trust He will take care of His creation and His people.
