Have
you noticed how trendy it is to be loud and obnoxious? I first started noticing this on the sports
talk shows ... then it appeared on the news programs and now it is seems to be
everywhere. It almost seems like volume
matters more than content. If I can
outshout the other person, I am the winner.
While this may be in vogue in today’s
society, it isn’t reality. The thing
that matters is what was called “content of character” a few decades back. This concept, which was popularized during
the American Civil Rights movement, has existed for years. The wise king, Solomon, wrote, “The wise in
heart will be called understanding, and sweetness of speech increases
persuasiveness.” (Proverbs 16:21). The
people that make the biggest difference aren’t ones with the loudest mouths,
they are the ones with the biggest hearts.
They do what they can to help people become the best they can be – and
often do it with the gentlest spirit.
Let’s make sure we value virtue more
than volume. When we do we will all
enjoy peace and quiet.
Think About It!
