Many
of us who grew up in the bygone decades operated under the philosophy that if
we worked hard and lived properly good things would happen to us. I am not sure that the younger generations
believe this – and their skepticism is understandable because too often it
seems like evil is winning. The rich
keep getting richer because they do things their own way. The world tends to reward those who are
self-serving. Often, the way things work
out tends to be discouraging to the older people and serves to reinforce the
fears of the youngsters.
While it is easy to become dismayed at
the current state of affairs, for believers there is hope. It might be tempting to believe these struggles
were born in our lifetime, but the truth is that it has always been that
way. When King David analyzed his world
he warned, “Do not
fret because of evildoers, be not envious toward wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like the
grass and fade like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate
faithfulness.” (Psalm 37:1-3). No,
not everyone who does good will end up enjoying physical prosperity, but we can
be certain that – in the end – it will all work out.
Let’s never give up hope in God and His
ways. It will help us make sense out of
life and aid us in making good choices in our lives.
Think About It!
