I
really don’t know much about Nickola Tesla, and if it weren’t for some modern
television shows and a spiffy new car, I probably would have continued to stay
in the dark. For those of you who might
be like me, Tesla was a Croatian scientist and inventor in the later part of
the 19th and early part of the 20th Century. To say the least, Tesla was an interesting
(if not eccentric) individual.
The other day I came across an
interesting quote by Tesla, “There is no
conflict between the ideal of religion and the ideal of science, but science is
opposed to theological dogmas because science is founded on fact. To me, the
universe is simply a great machine which never came into being and never will
end. The human being is no exception to the natural order. Man, like the
universe, is a machine.”. Now before I
go any further I will admit that I am no match for the scientist on an
intellectual plain, but I have to disagree with him on several levels in this
statement. Since I am limited in space,
I just want to tackle one – the belief that our world is an eternal machine
that has always been and will always be.
Our universe, which includes mankind, is the wonderful creation of a
loving God who designed it to please and honor Him. The world – and it’s most notable inhabitants
– were lovingly and carefully crafted by a Being so incredible that He makes
Tesla and all of mankind seem elementary.
Tesla created some neat stuff, but did he put the smile on a baby’s
face, the love in a newlywed’s heart or the hope in someone facing their own
death? Did he design a humming bird or
chisel out Pike’s Peak?
As I pondered human knowledge I was
reminded of another quote, “Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the
debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the
world?” (I Corinthians
1:20). Let’s be thankful for the
intelligence found in our world today, but let’s make sure we place our faith
in the One who began and will end our universe.

About It!
