Over the past few years a lot of attention has been drawn to social injustices … and, often, in response, someone else has raised a flag on another side of the issues.  To me, the most poignant might be “The Black Lives Matter” movement which was met by the “The Blue Lives Matter” slogans.  On one hand, some people wanted to bring attention to racial equality, then others felt compelled to highlight another segment of the population – the dangers faced by law enforcement officers.  Somewhere in the middle an “All Lives Matter” mantra was born.
As I look back at this volatile situation in our country I am drawn to something pretty simplistic, a children’s song that I grew up singing.  I realize that the chorus of the song has recently come under some ridicule, but, in the song “Jesus Loves The Little Children” we are taught the lesson that God loves all of His children no matter if they are red, yellow, black or white.  For just a minute, let’s set aside the challenges of a song that was written in the late 19th Century and focus on its meaning – God loves us all.  As humans, we may separate ourselves from each other by our manmade divisions, but God does not see the color of our skin, rather He sees to condition of our heart.  The truth is that there is nothing we can do (much less any way we can look) that can save us from our sins – that is what God has done for us.  One of the original verses of the song reminds us, “Jesus calls the children dear, ‘Come To Me and never fear, for I love the children of the world; I will take you by the hand, lead you to the better land, for I love the little children of the world.’”
Long before C. Herbert Woolston penned his words, John reminded of this, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”. (John 3:16)  Let’s all be thankful that God is color-blind … and while we are at it, maybe it is a quality we should emulate.
Think About It!
