The first couple of weeks of 2023 are bringing to fruition the voters’ wishes from last year. This time of year, old administrations are resuming their work and new representatives are being sworn-in. If we were responsible for bringing our people into leadership, we are probably happy about the way things are. If our people were defeated in November, we may not be thrilled with where we are and may be concerned about where we are going. However, no matter whether we are pleased or perturbed, we need to come together to make what we have in place work to the best of its ability. Not only is this in the best interest of our nation, it also has spiritual overtones. The Apostle Paul taught, “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.” (Romans 13:1-2). No, we don’t necessarily have to agree with what our government does, nor do we have to support all of their agendas, but we do have an obligation to be in subjection to them and their laws. The apostle would follow-up with his instruction on supporting government by writing, “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, or kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (I Timothy 2:1-2).

We are blessed to live in the nation in which we do. Let’s make it even better by living by God’s ways and seeking His will.

Think About It!
