Over the last couple of years, I have learned a lot about science – well, maybe not a LOT, but more than I knew before. One of things I am learning is the difference between the terms “pandemic” and “endemic”. While I am nether a linguist nor a scientist, I get the feeling that during a pandemic, we are compelled to try to confront the issue, while moving into an endemic situation, we just accept it and learn to live with it. When we move into an endemic stage we accept the inevitable.

While, within our current context, you might read the preceding paragraph and think I am discussing COVID, but that’s not my point – at least not at this time. As I thought of advancing endemic stages, I got to thinking about violence. It might be tempting to look at violence – in particular homicide, assaults and robbery – and feel that they are so ingrained in our world that we just have to accept them. We might need to learn how to protect ourselves from harm, but we just have accept that they are here to stay. Folks, when we do that, we have lost the war for our human nature. When we become okay with violence, we have given up on what makes mankind different in the eyes of God and each other! We must not try to become insensitive to the bad being done in our world, because when we do, it is bound to continue and get worse.

I pray that we will continue to be shocked by the presence of evil in our world – especially when it involves the loss of life. Let’s stand up for the value of life – not just at birth … not just in the elderly … but for every person who walks our streets.

Think About It!
