Does it seem like our world is upside down? Does it feel like people just don’t get the fact that there is good and there is evil? Have we gotten to the point where there is no hope for the world? If so, we are probably where we ought to be. You see, ever since the beginning of mankind this has been the case. This is not a 21st Century problem, this is a human problem! Thousands of years ago a Hebrew prophet revealed these words, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight! Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant men in mixing strong drink, who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!” (Isaiah 5:20-23). No, Isaiah wasn’t prophesying about today’s world, he was condemning his world. While we can commiserate with the prophet, how in the world can this be anything but bad news? Well, when we realize that today is no different than other times in history, it provides us with hope that God’s people can still be successful. Yes, times are bad – but, so what, they have always been bad. Godly people have had to endure an evil world and today is the same as it has always been.

It is easy to get pessimistic about modern society, but we need to stay focused that neither the world nor our mission has changed. Evil is still out there, and God’s missionaries are still called to teach the truth of salvation. Let’s not give in to the naysayers who are proclaiming modern hopelessness or give up the challenge of proclaiming the good news that has touched lives for centuries.

Let’s be strong and maintain our purpose and focus. Times may be bad, but God is always good!

Think About It!
