I have been having air conditioning problems at my office lately.  It’s not too bad – expect when it gets bad (if that makes any sense).  I guess that what I am saying is that when things are cool, I don’t really think about doing much to fix the problem.  When I am home I don’t think much about the need to get things corrected.  However, when I am sitting in my office at the end of a warm muggy day, I wish that I would have done something to get things done.
Now, the reason I share this with you is as a reminder of other things that tend to escape our attention – until we really need them.  For example, take our understanding of the Word of God.  When things are going well, we really don’t feel the need to spend time studying God’s word.  When we are dealing with sin effectively, it is easy to sit back and rely on what we know.  However, what happens when we all of a sudden face a spiritual challenge – one that we may have never really faced before?  At that point, a common thought might be, “Wow, I kind of wished I would have paid closer attention when I wasn’t feeling the pressure of making a good decision!  I could sure use some insight and answers right now.”.  As I thought about this the other day, I came across a promise that God made to His people that states, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord:  I will put My laws upon their heart, and on their mind I will write them ...” (Hebrews 10:16).  In essence, when we keep in constant connection with God, He will continue to fill us with the knowledge and guidance we need – not just for today, but He will help us store up for the difficult times ahead of us.
Let’s stay focused on God and His Word.  When we do, we will be prepared no matter what lies ahead.
Think About It!
