One of the most intriguing aspects of Christianity through the ages has been the Second Coming of Jesus.  Soon after Jesus ascended into heaven people began looking forward to His return.  In fact, throughout history, teachers have tried to predict the date when Jesus was going to return.  A quick internet search reveals dozens of predictions about the return of Jesus which turned out to be false.  One of the problems with these erroneous suppositions is the impact that it can have on reputation of the Second Coming.  With so many “misses”, people are tempted to dismiss the message of Jesus’ return.  Interestingly, we don’t need to rely on the digital age to bring this issue to light, the Scriptures outline the concern when it notes, “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.’”. (II Peter 3:3-4)  In answer to the taunting by ungodly men Peter responds, “… the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.”.    (II Peter 3:10)  Some might think they are providing a service by predicting the end of time, but the truth is that no one knows when it will happen.
There is a lot of conjecture about the Second Coming of Jesus, but the overriding truth is that it will happen and it will accompany the judgment of mankind.  Do we believe in the return of Jesus?  Are we ready to be judged?

Think About It!
